Maire O'Donnell Ladies' Matchplay
The Maire O'Donnell competition was founded by Ita Cleary in 1994, she wrote to all clubs outlining the competition structure and invited them to take part. At a time when lady golfers could only be associate members of any club, it was a very forward thinking move by Ita. The competition was named after Maire O'Donnell in honour of her achievments in the game throughout her remarkable golfing career. This competition was established to promote competitive Ladies' golf among neighbouring clubs, to be inclusive of all lady golfers and to provide enjoyment for all those taking part. The success of this competition is reflected in the continued support from the participating clubs year after year. Many friendships have been forged between members of neighbouring clubs as a result of participating in this highly enjoyable format of golf.
